ROOM 3's GALA STALL
Last week we spent most of our spare time getting ready for our annual school gala. We decided we would use what have learnt so far about recycling and make things to sell at gala. Runu came up with two great ideas, coke bottle flowers and coke bottle vases, which we spent all day Friday putting together. Thank you to Runu, Ms Stewart, Mrs Nobilo and Mr Andrew for all of their help on Friday, also Mrs Sullivan and Mrs Barker for donating the plants we used for the vases. We couldnt have done it without all of your help.

UKULELE

Every Friday we are lucky to have one of our lovely mums come in and teach us music. Last term we did recorders (ahhh!) and this term we are learning ukulele. Here we are the first time we played. It was heaps of fun!

ANIMAL POETRY
This week we looked at a poem about a cricket. Miss A had taken the word 'cricket' out of the poem so we had to use the clues in the text to figure out what the poem was about. Then we used how that poem was written and we wrote our own poems about animals. Here are some of them.

BECOME A FOLLOWER...
Your challenge tonight is to become a follower of our blog. All you will need is an email address. Maybe you could do this with your family or an older brother or sister. Its not hard but you do need to do a couple of things that you might need help with. Remember NOT to put your whole real name or say anything about yourself. This is a really important internet safety tip. Maybe you could use your blog name. See if you can remember what this is. There are parts of the blog that might give you clues as to what it is.

Let me know tomorrow if you managed to become a follower. If you had trouble have a chat to some people in our class who have managed to do it.

GOOD LUCK.... Miss A

The SPCA were very impressed with our effort and we are goin to appear in 'Kidz Mag' at the end of October. We are very excited. Watch our cool ad to see what we got up to.

ATHLETICS TRAINING
At the moment we are training for our athletics day. This afternoon we played a version of 'boffa tag' where you are chased down the sprint track by someone with half a pool noodle. If they catch you and hit you, you're out. Its great for getting us to run really fast. Even Mr D and Miss W had a go! It was so much fun!!!

MYSTERY POETRY
This term for reading our group is learning about poetry. Today we looked at a poem but only a line at a time. We had to predict what was happening in the poem. After 5 lines Miss A decided that she wasn't going to show us any more and we had to write our own endings to the poem. This is what we wrote:

The Dreamers

They were there this morning,
High up on an office block.

One was polishing the sun,
Another rinsing fleecy clouds,
A third rubbing the blue sky.

But as it turned out,
They were dreaming...

One was polishing a lemon,
Another was rinsing his kittens,
A third rubbing the floor.

The Gods

They were there this morning,
High up on an office block.

One was polishing the sun,
Another rincing fleecy clouds,
A third rubbing the blue sky.

I stood there watching,
They were bigger than life,
I couldn't believe it.

But when thy were finished
They just disappeared.

By SharplinM

My Dream

There they were this morning,
High up on an office block.

One was polishing the sun,
Another rinsing fleecy clouds,
A third rubbing the blue sky.

The others were a bit below,
Playing with the ocean,
One was even catching fish.

Then I woke up from my dream.

By Luiten-ApiranaB

My Fantasy

There they were this morning,
High up on an office block.

One polishing the sun,
Another rinsing fleecy clouds,
A third rubbing the blue sky.

They thought it was real,
And then they realized,
The workers were making a commercial,
To sell wallpaper,
That flashed in a certain light.

EXTRA CHALLENGE

Here is a tounge twister for you to practice. During the roll tomorrow I will ask for those people who think they can say this tounge twister without mucking up. There will be lots of group points up for grabs for those people who can do it well.

A skunk sat on a stump and thunk the stump stunk, but the stump thunk the skunk stunk.

DRAMA TIME!!!

On Monday the 12th of October we started drama. The first ever piece of drama we did this term was Musical Freeze Frames with a twist. Miss A turned the music on and told us to dance, we did. She got the camrea ready and said "crocodile". As the quick thinkers we are, Room 3 moved into postion and became crocodiles. After about 10 crazy callouts, it was elimination time! Suddenly Miss A called "Mr Dawson". I thought... red face, growling stern eyes, pouting, angry face, hands on hips...dump that... weird face, angry body postion! FLASH! Miss A took a photo of Marangi. A few turns later there were about 10 people left. "Micky Mouse"...everyones hands go up to their heads. GAME OVER! the bell had rung. This is the sort of thing we do for drama. By DouglasC

WELCOME TO TERM 4

Hi Everyone,

Welcome back to Room 3 for Term 4. Only 10 weeks till chirstmas holidays. Man has this year flown.

Last year Room 3 created a really neat website but found that some parents were unable to access it at home so we are going to try a blog this term. You will be able to keep up to date with what we are up to and what we are learning over the term.

This term we are having a huge focus on recycling. This is going to incorporate the fact that the school recently became an 'enviro-school' as well as Room 3s technology, science, reading, writing and maths programmes. By the end of the year each child will have made a number of items out of recycled products as well as learning the science behind certain processes and also we will hopefully have a few knick-knacks to sell at the school gala. It is going to be very exciting.

Thank you so much to all those parents and families who supported us in our SPCA fndraising project. Unfortunately the Waikato Times were unable to talk to us about our effort but I was able to contact a local kids magazine called Kidz Mag, who have photographed and interviewed the kids about what we did. This will be published in late October, so we will let you know when this happens.

So keep watching this space for the kids work and all the exciting things we are up to.

From all the kids in Room 3
